Designed around the process of laser cutting steel and creating a 3D form through a series of bending. Lenses are then channel set into the frame.
Each frame features a different contour and unique series of bends to create the final shape.
Material: 304 stainless steel, Polycarbonate lens.
Frame contours were created digitally and paper samples were cut on a laser cutter. Proportions were refined then final frames were cut in 304 stainless steel. hinges were soldered to connect the frame and armature.

Laser cutting was used in order to rapidly generate prototypes and conduct reviews on a range of head sizes and shapes. Correct proportions for the human face required adjusting the scale and placement of the temple, bridge, nose pads, and lenses.
A TRUMPF TruFLow CO2 laser cutter was required to cut stainless steel due to its reflective quality. A total of 60 frames can be cut per 24" x 36" sheet.
